The world economy has been riding a wild rollercoaster of events over the past 3 years. From the pandemic causing global shutdowns in every industry and disrupting the flow of trade goods and services worldwide, to the current war happening in Ukraine that is being felt not only through the UK and the rest of Europe, but around the world. All of these large-scale disruptions to normal trade have sent thousands of ripple effects that are being felt by the everyday person, especially in their wallets.
We’re on the brink of a financial crisis, and with the rising cost of living, we need to do all we can to ride the wave and weather the storm. Dr. Nikki Ramskill, known as The Female Money Doctor, has been helping women hit their financial goals and improve their health, wealth and lifestyle through her award-winning blog and her certified money mindset coaching services. Dr. Nikki has joined us today to share her thoughts on how you can survive this looming financial crisis.
Speak up and seek the help you’re entitled to
I definitely want to acknowledge that there are some people who are being badly affected by the cost of living crisis going on in the UK and around the world right now. It’s a perfect storm of awful problems. Thankfully, there is help out there, and many companies are willing to help if you can’t pay your bills. Many companies offer payment in instalments, and you can use these services to break up those big bills into more digestible chunks. There are also numerous debt charities that are willing to provide aid to those who need it. It might also be time to review our budget and shop around for more value from the services we subscribe to. We live in a complex world and things don’t always pan out for the best, but those who are able to remain resilient, level-headed and act decisively, yet rationally when adapting to the changes we’re facing will be able to come out on top.
Mindset is important
Not everyone is affected the same, and you may feel overwhelmed in different ways. What we see on social media and on our screens can cause so much unnecessary anxiety. The more heart-centred and aware of us can certainly feel great empathy for others in these times and this can start to impact our own lives. Switch off the news! Honestly, life flows so much better. Start your day off by focusing on the positive; what can you feel grateful for? How can you bring some joy to your day, even if it’s a small thing? Take care of your needs first, and this will help sustain you with the energy you need to help others. So many of us are walking around sleep deprived and depleted, which only amplifies the negative things we experience around us. But if you can keep balanced, nourished and grateful, the inconveniences these times bring won’t have such a hold on you, and you can focus on enjoying what you do have!
Look at the bigger picture
The wider economy in our countries and across the world will forever flex and change. The only certainty is that it will. No one can predict it. Major disasters happen, and unfortunately it’s those without money and resources that tend to fare worse off. However, opportunity lurks behind every closed door in the form of an open window, so rather than waste precious energy over-worrying about your current situation, why not embrace the uncertainty and use this as an opportunity to see what you can do for your own personal economy? And while you’re doing that, it puts you in a much better frame of mind. It’s an empowering choice to shift your perspective and I believe it’s much better than feeling powerless. If the pandemic proved one thing, it’s that the flexible and adaptable of us can thrive even in the toughest situations, and I believe that we all have that spark of creativity within us to make our own lives even just a little better for ourselves if we need to.
