Money is important in every business, as one cannot function without it; however, entrepreneur and business owner Andy Ta Kong strongly believes that it’s not about the money, it’s doing what you are passionate about that matters. His primary focus has always been keeping his clients and employees as happy and stress-free as possible. When asking Kong if his team had ever had to turn down a client, he stated: “Of course, it’s never about the money. We once had a client who was impatient, and super rude to the team. We told him we could not take him as a client, and that was that.”
Andy works with a talented group of like-minded, talented entrepreneurs consisting of Paul Parker, Mohammed Shakaoat, and Marcello Cantu. He knows that a one-man show can only go so far, and that you need a strong team to back you up. He stresses the importance of having an amazing team, as it is one of the most important investments when trying to achieve long-term success. Andy believes that with different strengths and weaknesses, his team can work together to fill any weak gaps to create a well-oiled machine. When it comes to hiring, he looks for people who are driven, passionate, and who have the same goals and vision as he does for his companies. Andy realizes that having partners and employees with an aligned vision will take a company to a whole new level. He recommends others to consider hiring quality over quantity for long term success and a happier team.
Kong’s entrepreneurial mindset grew with him as he started working at the young age of nine. He worked for family-run businesses that consisted of a nail salon and a restaurant that his parents owned. He would juggle the two jobs along with his schooling. This kept him considerably busy for the earlier part of his youth. As his friends would be out doing extracurricular activities, he spent his days at school and evenings working. He learned a lot throughout this time which would later help him when he needed it the most.
Andy grew up quickly as a result of working from a young age, and along the way he developed patience, discipline, and time management skills. He always had something he needed to do and had to get it in an appropriate amount of time. That alongside a dedicated work ethic, this left Andy with a solid foundation for the future for the business. He later decided that he wanted to leave his parent’s businesses with the intent to pave his own future. He wanted to be his own boss and to have all the luxuries that came along with that. Like people dream of, Andy always desired financial freedom and the ability to work from anywhere.
When Andy’s parents learned of this, they were not supportive whatsoever. They encouraged him to continue working for them and to stay in school to achieve a stable job. Andy went against his parent’s wishes and began building his life the way he wanted. “I don’t regret my decision at all”, Andy boldly stated. To this day, Andy continues to learn and grow each day as a person. He strives to be an inspiration for people worldwide, spreading his message that the hardest part of the process will be having to believe in yourself when no one else around you will.
As for his future, Andy plans on continuing to build up his brand, Project Wifi, and does not have any plans on retiring. “What I do feels more like a hobby than a job. I have no reason to quit and I’d have it no other way!” says Andy. Keep a watch out for Andy in the near future, as he is definitely an entrepreneur on the rise.
