Travis Chappell hosts the Build Your Network podcast, a show which focuses on the importance of building relationships in creating your own success. To help other podcasters book their dream guests, Travis is launching Guestio, a platform that connects content creators to guests. He hopes this will make the process easier for new creators by allowing them to book high-caliber guests without the lengthy process of repeatedly reaching out and networking to get the guests they want.
What inspired you to start podcasting?
I was a door-to-door salesman, but I wanted out. I was hoping to get into online business, because I love to travel and being online meant I could work from anywhere. I started listening to podcasts to try to get some idea of what to do next. And as I was listening to them, I was thinking, “This could be a great way to get the lifestyle I want.” I had no idea where it would go. I just started making a podcast. After a while, people started asking for my advice on how to do it, and I was able to start podcast coaching, consulting, and even podcast production for entrepreneurs. We took that money and reinvested it into building Guestio. I had no idea that’s where I’d end up when I dove into podcasting, but I’m very grateful for the experience.
What makes you stand out from others in your field?
I’ve actually proven that I can make a podcast that succeeds. Plenty of people in the podcast production space have never done a lot of podcasting themselves. They might have a podcast, but it doesn’t have great listenership or it doesn’t rank well. I can back up my business with proof, and combining that with the network of huge podcasters around me, I am confident in the results we can deliver.
What drives you to keep working hard each day?
My son. He’s about 17 months old now, and as he grows up I want him to know that his dad actually did what he said he would. When I tell him that he can do whatever he wants in life, I want him to see that it’s possible. We have a daughter on the way and that’s only made my conviction stronger. I want to prove to them both that you really can do whatever it is that you’re passionate about.
