In this new era when teenagers are seemingly spending their whole lives consuming content on social media, the question arises: What are they spending their valuable time consuming? The answer depends on which influencers teenagers look up to, and which marketers have an understanding of the social media algorithms. Among these influencers and marketers is Jake Geruson, who does both.
Jake’s expertise in digital marketing plus simultaneously being a well-known influencer, has lead him to a synergistic combination. By being a digital marketer and influencer, Jake is able to leverage this uncommon combination in various ways. In a recent Interview, Jake mentioned why this combination is so powerful.
First, Jake mentioned how, while being both an influencer and marketer, he knows how to optimize his presence on social media, grow his pages, and add monetary value. One of his TikTok pages, which has over 700,000 followers, is a great example of this. He also mentioned how this gives him a safety net, as he sees many influencers getting taken advantage of by brands and businesses, especially when the influencers don’t understand the true power and monetary value of their influence.
Second, Jake emphasized how most digital marketers lack something extremely important, which only some influencers have: experience. Jake mentioned how most digital marketers who help influencers reach brands and monetize their pages do not have the experience of actually being an influencer. This means the digital marketer is unable to truly put itself in the influencer’s shoes, thus not knowing what’s truly best for the influencer.
Finally, Jake stated how being an influencer has brought him special connections to other influencers, which is particularly valuable since he is also a digital marketer. This led to Jake taking part in managing a network of over a 100 million total followers, which would be completely out of reach for someone who was solely an influencer or solely a marketer. Being both led Jake to this phenomenal opportunity.
Jake Geruson concluded by saying that if the people watching the interview could take away one thing from his journey so far, it would be to not be afraid to explore other aspects of what you love and not get lost in the common “tunnel vision mindset.”
