Marcello Cantu packed his bags and said goodbye to his family and friends from Dallas, Texas, on a mission to chase his Californian dream. Cantu grew up in a tight-knit family who all worked together to run his grandfather’s auto-upholstery business. Cantu could have followed in his family’s footsteps but chose attend college instead. After graduating with a degree in marketing from University of Texas in Dallas, Cantu attended a conference about eCommerce. At this conference, he met Andy Ta Kong, a like-minded entrepreneur who shared similar ambitions in life. The future seemed a little clearer with Ta Kong as a friend, and they later became business partners. They stayed in touch, meeting once again at Ta Kong’s birthday party. There were over 100 guests who attended the party, but the two snuck off upstairs to discuss business instead of celebrating. They talked about the possibility of starting an Amazon business for hours, and the rest is history.
Ta Kong’s roommate, Paul Parker, was intrigued by the potential plans Ta Kong and Cantu had been mapping out before him, which resulted in Parker making the decision to join forces with them. Later, Cantu attended his second networking event in LA, where he met Mohammed Shakaoat, an entrepreneur who possesses a variety of valuable knowledge in different industries. Shakaoat turned three into four, and Project Wifi was soon born.
Project Wifi provides dropshipping mentorship and Amazon management. It grew into a huge success as they now have over 55 active clients and have generated over $19 million in revenue shares in just nine months. The four entrepreneurs saw an opening in Amazon dropshipping as the industry rapidly increased in popularity as consumers could access everything they need with the click of a button.
As every entrepreneur does from time to time, Cantu has had his share of challenges in his lifetime. He stated the following:
“I’d say the biggest challenge is being consistent. Putting In those hours every day. The entrepreneur that puts in 4 to 6 hours a day, six days a week will have more success than the other guy who puts in 10 hours a couple of days out of the week.”
Cantu has learned many lessons through trial and error. He took a different path than all his family and friends with the hopes to make something of himself. Now, he has financial freedom and the chance to travel around the world working from his laptop.
Without a plan to retire anytime soon, Cantu wants to continue building Project Wifi and gaining more clients with the objective of expanding his business and supplying more people with an opportunity to find success under his mentorship.
