Michael Osei-Wusu is a film director, producer, and visual artist. He opened his eyes to a world of creativity and visualizations once he attended Princeton University. No one knew that he would be soon be an upcoming visual arts director that would go by the name of Indigo Suave.
“Growing up, film was something I was always interested in, but never had the time to pursue. When I finally got to college, I felt like I finally had the opportunity to chase something, something that I wanted.”
He declared as a major in Visual arts and Film in 2018 and later that year founded his company ASUAVEPRODUCTION. During this time period, he started to delve and himself into learning and understanding film.
“I not only failed to see how meticulous the creation of films were growing up but I also never understood that a film is a bigger picture of who we are. It’s a reflection of the audience and of the creator. You must give everything a purpose—in every scene, every line, and every breath. Just like life, I must ask myself why I am doing what I am doing.”
He learned a lot about literature and movies during this time period as well. Watching movies, reading books, attending classes, and also being a student athlete was all part of his daily schedule. Suave came to know about the importance of a well-balanced and disciplined life. The true meaning of life isn’t attached to work only on your passion but also with peace of mind. Being a student athlete and playing on the Princeton Men’s soccer team helped him realize that.
During his winter break his freshman year is where he really began to develop and hone his craft of filming. Suave and his hometown friend, Lulu linked up for the first time to begin their dynamic duo of visuals and music. Together they both have helped each other learn and grow in each of their respective crafts. Suave marks that as the beginning of his journey.
“This is where I started to learn the art of filmmaking. Everything I had been learning was the theory, but the practice of theory is what every artists needs. Directing and creating music visuals was a great outlet for me to practice filming, my creativity, and gaining experience with the camera. And that’s really how I began creating visuals for music.”
Since then, Indigo Suave has been working day and night on his passion for creating visuals for music. This led to his first official production in Iceland for Lulu’s Alchemy and to other visual productions such as Starcaster, Farewell, and Zzz. His own film style has started to develop, a form uniquely called visual poetry.
“To me it’s where words and visuals express the same story and reflect each other effortlessly. It’s how well can you translate the written words to moving pictures.”
Along with music visuals, Suave projects to expand the production company into a mixture of visual projects such as TV shows, short films, movies, and photography.
In the coming year, ASUAVEPRODUCTION will be releasing a plethora of visual projects for us to tune in too. With the addition of visual advancements like 3D and CGI to their arsenal, it could lead to a very successful year.
