Nowadays, fashion is more than just meeting the basic need of putting clothes on one’s back. It has become an extension of one’s identity. Women, especially, buy clothes that make them feel confident and beautiful. That’s a benchmark that Nkims Closet always aims to reach for any woman regardless of skin color, body type, or age.
Nkims Closet first began as a concept by founder Kim Nance, who believes that fashion isn’t about who you’re wearing but about how you wear it. “If you feel good, you should look good,” shares the company founder and CEO. The Los Angeles-native grew up the eldest among her siblings and always had a love for fashion. Growing up, she would observe her mother and grandmother as they would sew up all types of outfits for Kim and her sister. “I can remember countless times being with my mom at the fabric stores,” recalls Kim Nance. “I would run my hands through those colorful silk fabrics and rub them against my cheek and imagine me posing in some beautiful outfit made from it.”
As soon as she was ready to take on the world, Kim knew right away what she would do: start her own fashion boutique. That clarity of direction and passion would give birth to Nkims Closet. Today, her brand has taken off and become a one-of-a-kind identity for women all over the country.
When Kim first started, she picked up inspiration from Maria Kenson and her brand MK Collab. The company grew into a successful e-commerce platform now known as Shop Social Scene. In 2015, Kim launched a different online shop with her mentor Vicki Gunvalson, which sold various clothing brands. Getting the company off the ground was not an easy feat. Kim would meet resistance as she would have to manage a team and curate multiple brands. After a few years, her yearning to create an original fashion brand would grow uncontrollably and push her to start conceptualizing designs that she could call her own.
Everything eventually fell into place. With the knowledge and experience with her e-commerce business and professional exposure via her nine-to-five job, she gathered the confidence and know-how to launch Nkims Closet.
The brand of apparel and clothing goes beyond the generic. Nkims has a specific mission, which makes all women feel beautiful regardless of how they look. “My fashion line is about inclusivity and making women feel beautiful in their own skin when they wear my clothes,” shares Kim. “My brand isn’t about one size or a particular shape. It’s for all women of all sizes. Most women can see themselves wearing most of the items that we offer.”
Moreover, Nkims Closet has built a reputation for quality output and customer service. The company boasts a free shipping guarantee regardless of quantity or destination. Consequently, all of the company’s customers have had nothing but good reviews and raving feedback. Kim seeks for nothing more than to continue serving women of various backgrounds and ages until Nkims becomes another household name in the world of fashion.
Kim also hopes that her story would inspire people from all walks to pursue their dreams and passions no matter how trying the journey might be. To learn more about Nkims Closet and Kim Nance, visit their website and Instagram account.
