Nomadland and Borat Subsequent Movieflim were a big victors on Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.
The award for the best drama film went home to the maker of Nomadland. The movie is starring Frances McDormand as a homeless woman travelling through the American West.
Chloé Zhao took home the award for the best director of the 2021’s Golden Globe. Zhao became the second-ever woman to earn the honour of the award in the history of Golden Globes. Before Zhao, just Barbra Streisand received the award in 1983.
Zhao thanked everyone for making it possible to do what she loves. She said she fell in love with making movies and telling stories as it provides a chance to laugh and cry together. Moreover, a chance to learn from one another and to have more compassion for one another.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is a sequel to hugely successful Borat, which came in 2006. Moreover, the movie was named the best comedy or musical film at the awards.
Accepting the honour, Sacha Baron Cohen thanked all-white Hollywood Foreign Press. His statement referred to the recent revelation that the organization behind the Globes has no black members.
Cohen further poked the honouring body as he was named the best actor in musical or comedy for the same film.
He added joking, ‘wait, Donald Trump is contesting the result. He’s claiming that many lifeless people voted, which is a very harsh thing to say about the HFPA.
Other winners at Golden Globes
Of Sunday’s 14 acting winners, half were British, including Cohen. Rosamund Pike received the best actress in a musical or comedy film for I Care a Lot. Moreover, Daniel Kaluuya won the best supporting actor for Judas and the Black Messiah.
Kaluuya plays US activist Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Black Panther Party. Fred was assassinated in 1969 at the young age of 21 years.
He hopes generations after this could see how brilliantly he fought, spoke, and loved. Kaluuya said while accepting his honour from the Globes.
Kaluuya further added that Fred taught him about himself and made him grow as a man. Moreover, he appreciates all of this with his heart.
