The last year and a half brought with it a major shift in fashion. No one knows that better than stylist and influencer Karolina Antoniades, whose move from NYC to Miami was the catalyst for a big change in her aesthetic.
Karolina Antoniades is a creative woman and major fashion influencer with a lot of insight. She was born in Poland but later moved to London to pursue her career, first as a model and then as a stylist and personal shopper, working with luxury brands like Gucci and Giorgio Armani.
Eventually, she moved to New York City. There, she continued to work as a stylist, this time on editorial photoshoots, while also cultivating a new life as a mother and influencer.
Nowadays, Karolina documents her style journey and life on Instagram. This is her way of sharing her passion and inspiring followers, which number over one hundred and fifty thousand. Karolina’s feed is a quintessential example of the major way that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the fashion world.
As a fashion lover, Karolina takes her inspiration from her surroundings. While living in NYC, her upscale style echoed the city. In New York, she is known for a cool, elegant style with an edgy twist.
As a mother, Karolina shares her love of creativity and fashion with her daughter, Athena. She proves that street style is for everyone. No surprise that some of the highlights from her Instagram feed feature her daughter and their dog Cabo!
However, for Karolina, like for many others living in big cities, the start of the pandemic was a difficult time. Suddenly, New York City was no longer an exciting playground for fashionistas, as the city’s denizens were restricted to their small apartments and every outdoor excursion felt like a big risk.
Those who could found ways to leave the city, and found places where they could have more space and could spend time outside safely. Karolina and her family were amongst them. They decided to leave NYC and move to Miami, Florida where the weather was warmer, COVID measures were less strict, and access to nature was abundant.
With the location change, Karolina also had to adapt her style to the new environment. Florida’s beaches, blue skies, and palm trees are very different from NYC’s tall buildings and gray streets. Simply put, black platform boots and puffer jackets weren’t quite right for life in Miami!
The key elements of Karolina’s new style are all about nature and femininity. Her edge isn’t entirely gone, but lighter colors and softer fabrics feature more heavily, with a boho-chic flair and the occasional athleisure-inspired look.
This is entirely in line with a greater switch in the fashion world. In 2021, many designers moved away from stiff structured garments and towards comfortable but still luxurious loungewear.
For Karolina, what hasn’t changed at all is her intrinsic approach to crafting outfits: every look is still meticulously put together, with a preference for well-crafted luxury items. Just as important is that those who matter most still figure heavily in the photos she shares.
