The term “philanthropy” was first used by the Greek playwright Aeschylus in the fifth century BCE. It stood for “love of humankind.” Today, philanthropy refers to charity in all its manifestations and is sometimes described as providing “time, talent, and fortune” to improve the lives of others.
Making a financial contribution, such as a donation to a cause you like, is one way to demonstrate philanthropy. Giving your time is another way to show generosity. You may volunteer at a food pantry, teach a teen, or participate in any other activity that tries to improve people’s lives. Therefore, regardless of how much riches a person has, a philanthropist is someone who demonstrates these traits.
The goal of a philanthropist is to make the world a better place for others. Philanthropists are guided by their desire to solve the problems of others through any means possible. To become a philanthropist, a person can offer “time, talent, or fortune” to accomplish good, but by acting strategically, you can improve the impact of your generosity.
