Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) uses infrared technology to look underneath the surface of the retina and to use artificial intelligence to predict abnormality by quantification of the individual fibres. It also permits monitoring progression of pathology. The most significant tissue in the anterior eye is the multi-layered cornea. We can now with the pentacam, zoom beyond 40x to see the effects of contact lens damage and monitor corneal changes.
Historically, eye prescriptions were elicited by wearing heavy glasses called trial frames in the optometrist’s office whilst lenses were slotted in. Now, the patient perceives lens changes by looking through digital binoculars. This allows for precise and seamless digital presentation of lenses within 0.12 Dioptres. The Zeiss profiler eliminates distortion by using NASA technology to provide a 3D map of the cornea and lens surfaces. This means an iscription lens can now be customised to patient needs and give the very best distortion-free vision.
