Wangari Maathai once said, “Nature is quite unforgiving; if you destroy nature, nature will destroy you.” More has been said about the production of goods and services concerning environmental conservation, yet less has been done to its effect. The once healthy environment is being choked from every corner of the globe, especially from manufacturing industries. Despite all the warnings from experts and environmental activists, very few governments have taken the necessary steps to conserve and improve the environment. We speak to Jessica Sinclair, the founder, designer, and owner of JIINAN, an eco-friendly clothing collection.
JIINAN is a brand that specializes in high-end quality fabrics and products that are environmentally friendly. Thanks to Jessica’s market understanding, the brand strives to make the client more comfortable and sexy. These quality products are made from recycled plastic bottles and fishnets, reducing the levels of waste in the oceans. The company has heavily invested in research and sustainable textile manufacturing of its products. JIINAN, under the leadership of Jessica, was also very picky when choosing manufacturers of their products. Only those who adhere to their environmental goals were selected, leading them to Bali and Italian manufacturers.
“At first, I thought of a brand that would have a positive impact on the environment and, at the same time, make some profit for me at a personal level,” says Jessica. “That is when I decided to start JIINAN.” Jessica believes her visit to Portugal in 2018 for Yoga classes and her grandmother was the inspiration she needed. “My grandmother always reminded me to follow my dreams and change them to reality,” she says.
Jessica believes each person has the individual obligation to conserve nature by using recycled products that would otherwise have a long-term devastating effect on the environment. Like JIINAN’s activewear collection, Jessica calls for more sensitization of the populace to embrace cleaner and environmentally friendly clothing. “It’s a pity that the generation that creates havoc on the environment may not be there to experience it,” she says. “Let us protect this environment, and that includes the ocean and the animals too.”`
Let us use the environment to better both our economic and social life. However, this should not happen at the expense of a clean environment. Remember, you cannot count yourself rich if your environment is polluted.
