Georgia passed a controversial law that stunned the women across the globe. It passed a law that stated that abortion was illegal once the foetus was six weeks old. The law is also known as the heartbeat-bill because it bans the abortion as soon as a doctor can detect cardiac activity in an embryo.
The Republican Governor Brian Kemp signed the bill. Many celebrities have come forward to oppose the Georgia Law. Netflix and American Civil Liberties Union will fight the law in the court. The company may invest all of its proceeds to this cause.
Alabama, Texas and Ohio all have recently passed or propose such laws along with Georgia that restrict abortion. It is a question of human rights. Many feminists are coming to the forefront to condemn this misogynist law passed by a male dominated cabinet.
Arian Grande contributed $250,000 from her concert in Atlanta to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood Action fund president Dr. Leana Wen said to people that “Grande’s generous donation is at a critical time- in Georgia and across the country, anti-women’s health politicians are trying to ban all safe, legal abortion. Thanks to the inspiring support of hers, Planned Parenthood can continue to fight back in the courts, in Congress, in State houses, and in the streets – against these dangerous attacks on people’s health and lives. We are so grateful to Ariana for her longstanding commitment t supporting women’s rights and standing with Planned Parenthood to defend access to reproductive health care. We won’t stop fighting – no matter what.”
Many celebrities took to their social media handles to share their discontentment about the new abortion laws. They voiced their opinion that it is a woman’s body, so it should be her choice whether or not she wants to give birth to a child. The Government should not interfere in it. Lauren Jauregui, Camilla Cabello, the ex -members of the band of Fifth Harmony also posted their opinion.
