On Saturday, UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson received a special phone call from 76th President of US, Joe Biden. The US’ President’s call was surely a hint of a new relationship between the US and the UK. However, the history doesn’t show Biden and Johnson as political bedfellows. In addition, Joe Biden has referred UK’s Prime Minister as a physical and emotional clone of Donald Trump.

On Friday, President Joe Biden contacted his neighbours first starting with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Later, he also contacted Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the same evening.

UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson received the call from Joe Biden on Saturday. After the call, Joe Biden also suggested that the UK and US’s special relationship is in better shape now. A wide call between two leaders was focused on tackling COVID-19 and climate change. Moreover, both country’s leaders have already mentioned the importance of solutions for these two crises.

What was the message in Joe Biden’s call?

Later on Saturday, The White House confirmed that the message in Joe Biden’s call focused on the US and UK relationships. Both political leaders showed their intentions to strengthen this bond and combat global challenges like COVID-19 and climate change.

Moreover, both leaders discussed some critical topics like global health security, defence, human rights and protecting democracy. In the wake of Brexit, surely Prime Minister was hoping for a free trade deal. But, the White House’s description of call didn’t mention any trade deal between two countries yet.

Lastly, the omens from this call between Joe Biden and Boris Johnson are looking promising for both countries. Both leaders will surely try to develop this special relationship during their meet at G7 in June.
