Federal Bureau of Investigation is now actively going to use technologies that can allow them to control homegrown terrorism. The technologies would monitor popular social media platform, Facebook’s accounts to monitor any forms of threat to security and alert them in real-time. The FBI cited through Public Source Program Office, a group which manages public contracts, that there are a growing number of national threats and the use of social media will allow to detect them.
FBI will lawfully monitor Facebook system so that the privacy of the users is not jeopardized. Search for a contractor has started since early July so that the contractor can provide enough relevant information regarding a posted threat including social media user’s ID numbers, IP addresses, and telephone numbers, geographic location, keyword, and photogenic tagging. According to the FBI, the aim of the law enforcement agency is to obtain information to send to their control center in real-time via email.
