Matt Sequeira started his music career by doing covers in his bedroom. His first interactions with music came at the age 7 years old, when Matt began taking piano lessons. In high school, he decided to teach himself how to play guitar and sing. He became more active in the music scene towards the end of his high school career, gaining confidence along the way. “I kept my ambitions and dreams hidden until entering High School,” said Matt. “At that point, I had already taught myself how to sing and play guitar. During school breaks, I would perform to the students around me.” Eventually being encouraged by his peers to audition for American Idol in 2015, Matt’s audition was broadcasted on live TV. Since then, all his goals moving forward have been towards music.
One day, Matt was contacted by a producer from Capitol Records and was asked to come into the label to do some hands-on work with producing tracks. Working beside producers, Matt contributed to the release of multiple different projects in many different genres. Taking those experiences, Matt moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a music production internship with Nathan Walters. Confused between choices in which genre to pursue as an artist, Matt decided it was time to take a short break and consider his different options.
In 2018, Matt lived in the Azores islands of Portugal for 3 months performing many paid shows. He sold out his merch within the first week. “It meant a lot to me since it was the first time I felt people connecting to my music. I can’t wait to travel the world and connect with many other fans internationally,” said Matt.
Earlier this year, Matt dropped his debut project on all major platforms. He made his debut with a 5 song EP titled “Weirdo”. The project covers topics ranging from personal issues, relationships, and mental health. The final track on the extended play called “Demons” is about his struggle with depression, a subject Matt doesn’t usually like to talk about.
Matt plans to return to the scene in early December with a Punk/Pop version of the classic Christmas song “Deck The Halls”. That track is set to release on the first of next month.
