For decades, New York City has been notorious for being the birthplace of dozens of world famous supermodels’ careers. With each year comes fresh new talent, eager to become the new face of major fashion houses. But since the beginning of the NY modeling mecca, the industry has seen a significant arc and thus has changed irrevocably. Today, the modeling industry is much more inclusive, therefore garnering a much larger pool of talent. That said, these days, a single casting often reaps hundreds of girls from 30 plus New York agencies, hoping to be the lucky chosen one. Up-and-coming New York Model Management signee Aga Wojtasik has been through the process countless times. But after seven years of experience in various modeling markets worldwide, Wojtasik has accumulated a vast understanding of her industry, learning how to strategize along the way to position herself for success.
During her years as a teenage model, Wojtasik gained years of experience modeling in the European and Asian markets for luxury brand names like Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Issey Miyake, French Connection and Uniqlo. Through her tenure, the young model blossomed beautifully, finding not only herself, but also her rhythm and flow as a model. Through various collaborations with esteemed fashion photographers, Wojtasik created her own technique in performing for the camera to perfect poses in an elegant yet fluid manner. Having done this, her value as a model only increased, landing her clients Calvin Klein, LaQuan Smith, Rebecca Minkoff, Derek Lam, Pat McGrathm Anthropologie, Opening Ceremony, and Urban Outfitters in New York City. Despite her young age, Wojtasik managed to successfully prove her value and appeal as a model to casting directors worldwide.
“I quickly realized how important attitude-and energy are on set,” Wojtasik says. “People love to work with-people they like, so many times, my personality and simply being nice to everyone helped me rebook jobs.”
Today though she is grateful to be able to claim an extensive client list that has afforded her the financial stability that most models dream of, Wojtasik remains hungry for more. As a creative at the core, the young model is eager to find modeling jobs that facilitate more creative opportunities for complex shoots. Though she enjoys and appreciates the steady work from the brands and fashion houses that helped develop her career, she now looks ahead at opportunities that will challenge her.
“I have learned how to take and respect-criticism when it is constructive,” Wojtasik said. “It makes me a-better model. However, some people’s opinions are not worth a second-thought, and I have recognized how to differentiate the two, and ultimately this has-made me very aware of my self-worth. I think a lot of models-lose their sense of it, and their self-esteem drops. I am aware of who I-am and what I stand for, and this has helped me maintain ground in the industry.”
At just 23 years old, Wojtasik touts a prolific portfolio of her modeling career thus far. Still, the ever-changing industry has proven time and time again just how unpredictable it can be. That, coupled with the immense competition across the industry makes for a challenge in and of itself, but regardless, Wojtasik is steadfast and focused on her goals and reminds herself that, “When one door closes, another will always open.”
