Marc Ryan Effron is the co-founder of Legacy Healing Center, a treatment center focused on healing substance abuse and mental issues with a personalized and holistic approach. In his former life, Marc was a vice president at a major financial firm living a comfortable lifestyle. However, the course of his life would change when he began abusing substances and lost everything he had worked for. We break down Marc’s story and discover why he is now dedicating his life to helping others find their way again.
Marc’s Story
Although now Marc seems to have the answers to most problems, he remembers when he wasn’t always so solid. Marc grew up in Swampscott Mass with his mother and stepfather. His parents divorced when Marc was young and both remarried. The divorce weighed heavily on Marc who at that age did not know what to do with the feelings of betrayal, resentment, fear and feeling lost. This placed him in a very vulnerable state emotionally. Watching his parents enter into new relationships created in him the ability to detach from situations and relationships without his permission. Things that Marc has struggled with throughout his life.
Despite working his way up the corporate ladder very quickly at an early age, Marc felt like something was always missing. Over time, the emptiness became overwhelming and Marc turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the feeling. By the age of 30, Marc lost it all. He was fired from his job, estranged from his family, and became homeless.
Forming Legacy Healing Center
Knowing he had to pull himself out of this situation, Marc visited multiple treatment centers seeking help. To his surprise, he noticed most of the treatments only helped solve the symptoms and not the underlying issue. Once sober, Marc was determined to change how substance abuse is treated and so opened Legacy Healing Center.
Starting as a three-bed pilot program, Legacy Healing Center grew to support over 155 beds and employee 200 supportive employees. Marc’s treatment also contracts with large corporations such as American Airlines to provide corporate mental health training. As of today, Legacy Healing Center has treated over 10,000 patients. Marc envisions a clinic in every State, within the next few years. His goal is to help as many people as he can with substance abuse and mental illness. Marc can confidently say that he has found his purpose and has overcome the emptiness in his heart by serving others.
Reflection From Marc
To get yourself out of a dark place takes grit and determination. But most importantly, it first takes acceptance that you need help. Reflecting back, Marc realizes he was always running away from his problems throughout his entire life, which never solved them, just buried them for a period of time. Marc advises all of those struggling, to find someone who can guide them, a therapist or mentor, as this is the best way to start improving yourself.
There are small touches that make Legacy Healing Center successful. The care and personal attention stems directly from the owners and flow throughout the organization. This was the dream that Marc and his partners had when bringing the facility to life. He has not forgotten where he came from but continues to move forward being the man that he was destined to be.
