Many entrepreneurs out there tend to focus on the competition. They fixate on their rivals instead of putting all of their energy and effort into growing and taking care of their own businesses. This is not the case with Mario Selva.
Selva, an Italian-born businessman, believes in helping each other out and hates getting confrontational. “My approach in business is not to undercut the competition. Instead, I try to come up with a product or a service that is as unique as possible so that I can do my own thing,” he explains.
So far, his approach has paid off. Still, in his mid-twenties, Mario has become a millionaire doing only what he loves. “I graduated with a degree in Business from the University of Naples Federico II,” he recalls, adding, “I wanted to do something unconventional. I didn’t want an office job, so I began working in online marketing.”
Selva’s first venture was to work with Amazon sellers. It was going well for a while until one day, without any warning, the site disabled his page. “That’s when I realized I never, ever want to be dependent on anyone else for my income,” he says.
Mario decided to focus on social media marketing. During one of his travels to New York City, he saw an old lady in her sixties shopping for food online. “That’s when it hit me,” he explains. “People want convenience. The Internet is the way to go. I decided to launch my e-commerce store right then and there.”
His business was a massive success. Selva made $180,000 in only four months. But that was only the stepping stone. Next, he decided to go deeper with marketing. He invested his profit into his next business and made $1.5 million dollars in just 18 months.
“I achieved all that because I stayed in my lane. I didn’t copy anybody else,” Mario says. Today, he is the mentor of a team of two and spends countless hours reading and learning so that he can be the best version of himself.
When asked if he has any advice for those who are just starting out in business, Selva emphasizes the importance of a strong mindset. “You won’t get anywhere if you quit when you face your first problem. You’ll have many problems; that’s what business is about. Things can get unpredictable. It’s up to you to adapt and, most importantly, to never quit. Just keep going and it will happen for you,” he advises.
Mario wants to leave a good legacy behind him. “It’s not just about the money. I want to be known as the guy who cared to help his family, friends, and followers. I’m all about helping people. That’s the real legacy to me,” he shares.
The future has no ceiling for Mario Selva, whose entrepreneurial spirit, skill set, and mindset keep him on top. “I don’t plan on retiring. I love my job too much,” he says.
