With lyrics like “it’s a blessing and a curse” and reflective verses looking back on sacrificed relationship for freedom, Leon Budrow opens up about his struggle with balancing the desire to be a single and free man with the feelings of loneliness and relationships.
As a dancer and music star, Budrow certainly has a party lifestyle when it suits him, but not everything is as it seems ,as Budrow describes in his hit song “Perception”.
“I certainly do enjoy my freedoms, and I have a hard time letting that go.” Budrow explains. “At the same time sometimes I do want a relationship. It’s a never ending battle in my head.”
Budrow outlines this battle with lyrics like “I’ve been feeling lost, I’ve been under pressure, I don’t know which way to go I need some direction.” as he describes the battle of having the freedom to do whatever you want versus the feelings of loneliness that sometimes coincide with those freedoms.
Following each hook, Budrow speaks throughout the song, confessing he enjoys having the “freedom to do whatever he wants” but then asks the question “is it worth it if your heart’s still broken?” which certainly reveals that even a fun loving playboy such as Budrow may feel lonely.
“I am a very independent person and like to be alone, but sometimes I do feel lonely.” Budrow confesses. “Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever settle down, but most of the time I feel I just haven’t met the right person yet.”
Though the song is intended to make the listener ponder single rock star life versus a committed relationship, some lyrics may propose the idea that Budrow is secretly lonely despite his single playboy lifestyle. Budrow is quick to address that is not the case, and that the song should not be taken too literally.
“I wasn’t depressed or upset when I wrote it, and I’m not depressed or upset now.” Budrow states. “Yes I may feel that way from time to time, but I love my life as it is and I’m very happy.”
Budrow also mentions that the issue shouldn’t be “settling down” but rather finding someone who compliments his interesting and exciting lifestyle, goals and ambitions.
As a musician, actor, model and male dancer, Budrow seeks to find someone that compliments all that he does. However with so many endeavors, Budrow adds that he is constantly busy and doesn’t have much time to entertain the idea of a relationship, and that it will “happen with it is the right time and the right person.”
“I’m sure someone will come knock me off my feet one day, but I’m not here to make a dating pitch. Single or taken, I have a great life with all that I have to focus on.”
When asked if he is currently seeing anyone, Budrow simply said “nothing serious.”
“Perception” may be Budrow’s first song to address his feelings of loneliness vs freedom, but Budrow hopes to write more tracks of similar content when he feels those emotions again.
“Life is all about perception” Budrow explains in his reflective hip hop track. “The way you look at a situation becomes your reality. Sometimes there are multiple ways to look at it and it just depends how you feel at that moment. That’s the concept that the song Perception is about.”
We look forward to hearing more songs from Budrow regarding the emotional roller coasters that an artist of his caliber endures.
