Rodents are on the rise in London Town but preventing an infestation in your building is easier than you might think.
Preventing a pest infestation is far, far more accessible than curing one. Once those nasty rats, termites, squirrels, foxes, or birds, are nesting in your house, it is nearly impossible to get them out without an expert. Fortunately, pest prevention is as simple as taking a few steps to protect your property. It doesn’t even require harsh chemicals or poisons.
What Type of Pests Plague London?
London is a cooler climate than most European cities. Nevertheless, it attracts pest problems of its own. The most notorious of all London’s pests are the rats. Pest Control services respond to more rat incidents than any other. From hearing them scrabbling in the attic or finding their droppings in the close, rats are everywhere in London streets. An estimated 20 million rats live in London.
Other pest infestations London residents could face include pigeons, which are everywhere, bed bugs, dust mites, and even moths.
How to Prevent a Pest Infestation?
In an earlier article, we go into deeper detail on the dos and don’ts of pest infestations. Today, let’s focus on how to prevent those pests from making your home their home. To do this, you must make your home harder to get into than everyone else’s. Your home should be inhospitable to pests.
Block up access to food
Make sure all your foodstuffs are up off the floor in sealed cupboards. Use glass jars and reusable Tupperware tubs to store food. Clean up spills and mess as soon as it happens to keep your home smell-free. The scent of food attracts pests.
Remove exterior access points.
Pests don’t just begin in the building. They have to come in from the outside. This means there are access points in your property where they are entering. Blocking up this hole – or the series of holes – prevents pests from getting in and out. You will trap the remaining few, ready for humane capture and release traps.
Monitor and de-clutter empty spaces
All of our homes have empty spaces. It could be a wall cavity or an attic or cellar. Whichever your home has, be sure to clean it regularly and inspect it for signs of pests. Look for droppings, dead animals, or signs of a nesting area.
Peppermint oil
There is evidence that insects do not like peppermint oil. If you have no pets, spreading peppermint oil around the borders of your property could act as a deterrent.
What to do if pests get inside?
If pests get inside despite your vigilance, you should refrain from relaxing your pest control routine. Instead, keep doing as you are, but up your game with natural traps. Catch and release animals you find, or use insect traps to rid yourself of unwelcome guests. If all else fails, seek out the services of a specialist pest control agent in your area. They can rid you of pests once and for all.
