If you have ever heard of events like Miami Swim Week, New York Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week, you are well aware of the immense notoriety a model must have to be featured in such events. Many young women dream of modeling at these fashion events, but only a select few are given the opportunity.
Rebecca Mardikes is a top model who has been featured in all three events, the Kansas City native personifies the formula of the famous saying, “Success is the product of hard work and opportunity.” Mardikes had a very rapid ascension to the pinnacle of the fashion world, taking advantage of every opportunity that was presented to her.
Mardikes started modeling at 18, and although it was initially just for leisure, it then turned into a prosperous career path. She graduated from the number one ranked journalism program in the country at the University of Missouri – Columbia, earning her Master’s degree when she was just 22 years old. This propelled her to venture outside her hometown, where she landed a job as a fashion publicist at a top PR firm in New York City. While working in PR, she developed relationships with some of the biggest brands fashion has to offer, she also had fashion placement in numerous publications- Forbes 30 Under 30, Vogue, Harpers-Baazar, Vanity Fair, In Style, GQ, and ELLE Magazine. Her impeccable work product eventually paved the way for her to work with brands like: Express, Drunk Elephant, Lucky Brand, Lee Jeans, Athleta, Edition Hotels, among others.
Interning for Vogue in London, as well as doing private photo shoots for Rebecca Minkoff, was paramount to her early success. Mardikes went on the work for some of the biggest international modeling agencies, as her success was no accident, but a byproduct of her hard work, and readiness to immerse herself in the fashion world. Now that Mardikes is considered to be a top model, she enjoys living the lifestyle, work, and all the benefits it has to offer.
When Mardikes is not modeling, she enjoys reading, writing, researching various baking recipes, and spending quality time with her family. She is well-traveled, and has been to some of the most exotic destinations the world has to offer. She is a big sports fan, as she grew up playing soccer, and participating in track and field events- she was the number three overall recruit in high school for the high jump event in track and field.
Although Mardikes’ path to becoming a top model was somewhat unconventional, it speaks volumes about her dedication to excellence in every aspect of her life. She hopes to open a charity for children when her modeling career is over, as she has always enjoyed tutoring and mentoring kids during her time spent living in the Midwest.
Next time you are flipping through the pages of your favorite fashion magazine, or watching notorious events for fashion, it is a safe bet that you will see Mardikes’ work. She has attained success in every aspect of her young career, and she is a great example for other young women who seek to breakthrough in the fashion world.
