Classic films from the 1930s and 1940s, in which the actresses portrayed powerful women, where the inspiration for this life changing read. Yes, it’s a book women will find delicious, but is it just for woman? Not at all this book can help both genders learn how to be more compassionate, empathetic, and informed. This week we had a chat with Douglas, so we could learn more about his work and what’s coming next
The Lady Book is an awesome accomplishment. What inspired you to write it?
I recently offered a nine-part class called The Lady in which class participants and I talked in depth about what it means to be a lady. During the class, I asked participants to watch several movies made in the 1930s and 1940s, and we had some wonderful conversations about the female and male characters, their relationships with one another, and their way of being in the world. Many of these female characters were ladies, and it was illuminating to see how they functioned in the world. Female liberation was turned into an aggressive stance–instead of having allowance. Not to see how to control life dynamically.
If you can pick one word that best describes The Lady Book what would it be and why? Receiving. Most people don’t realize what true receiving is. They create an either/or universe in which there are things they will receive and things they won’t. But true receiving is about receiving every-thing and everyone without judgment or resistance. A lady knows how to receive.
Downtime is necessary for many writers and artists to get their creative mojo going. What do you do when it’s time for you to relax and unwind?
Creating is relaxing for me. Creating is not about being busy and working hard. Creation is about elegance – minimum effort with maximum results. That is how I create. It is a place of joy and ease. I don’t need a vacation from that.
What is the most Challenging part of the writing process for you?
I don’t find writing challenging, it’s another way to connect with people.
Is there anything you have that you’re working on that you can tell your readers about?
A project called El Lugar which is located at the heart of the rainforest in Costa Rica, aiming to preserve the invaluable treasures mother earth has given us. El Lugar extends over 1200 acres and is located in the Heredia Province, an hour and a half from San Jose.
El Lugar is the beginning of teaching the world about the nurturance of the earth when you ask for contribution. We are creating El Lugar from the space of Benevolent Capitalism which means that we are building El Lugar in a way that benefits the earth and all of us.
