The Power of Positivity – How Tristan Leyco’s Positive Mindset Has Propelled His Success

Leyco moved to Queens New York from his hometown of Lucena City, Philippines when he was 3 years old, and grew up fully surrounded by creativity and music. From a young age he was encouraged to create and immerse himself in creative pastimes. He played a plethora of instruments, played in school bands, sang in choirs, produced his own music from start to finish, and skateboarded (to the point of sponsorship, but that’s a whole other story).

Keep the Creative Juices Flowing

Today he is a successful photographer based in NYC and self-professed ‘multipotentialite’, meaning he encourages himself to work on a number of creative pursuits at the same time in order to keep productive. “I don’t limit myself to a set interest or creative pursuit. I’m a right-brain thinker to the highest degree, I need constant stimulation. So, it’s necessary that I have a limitless amount of creative outlets to fall back on in order to maintain a sound mind.”

Find Your Passions and Commit!

Leyco believes in never doing anything without soul or passion, and definitely not to chase a dream for the wrong reasons. One of his favourite words is the Greek word Meraki, which means to devote your entire fibre of your soul into something you love, or into something you are passionate about. “It’s about YOU. What YOU love, what YOU care about and what truly makes YOU happy. Life’s too big to feel small. So, do what you can, while you can. Strive to do the things you love, the things you’re afraid of and go outside your comfort zone. Just live.”

Have Faith in the Now

Leyco believes that by releasing the need to understand and control the world around us we will be released to be able to focus on what we’re doing, and developing our own skills. “We can’t control the world around us, circumstances, people, nature, our genetics, or the past. To try to control, or to worry about any of these things is pointless and only makes life more difficult. It’s in our constant attempt to try to control these things that we end up suffering. The only control we have are our thoughts and actions. Knowing this, you’re not entitled to be true to anyone else but you must be true to yourself. There are endless paths and roads in this life that’ll take you where you need to go.”

Leyco’s Tips for Success

When it comes to tips for aspiring entrepreneurs, Leyco is full of good advice. “I’ll never forget this quote a best friend of mine told me, “If you drop a ball on the floor it doesn’t bounce very high, but if you chuck that ball with everything you’ve got then it’s going to bounce so damn high. So, the effort you put into yourself is equivalent to how far you’ll bounce a.k.a. grow.” This serves as a good reminder for every entrepreneur that however hard you work is consequently how much you will get out of your work.

Leyco is definitely an enigma in the photography world. Since the majority of entrepreneurs nowadays are preaching the classic “find what you’re good at/like doing and only do that until you’re an expert at it”, he stands out as something of an enigma amongst creatives.
