Astrophysicists discover Neptune-sized ‘Forbidden’ planet in the Neptunian Desert

Astrophysicists have found a strange world which is so unfamiliar that it has been nicknamed as the Forbidden Planet.

The unusual world, which was not believed to have the ability to exist, is present in the mysterious solar system’s part known as Neptunian Desert, researchers say.

The world, which is officially called NGTS-4b, is 1000°C and was discovered by the astrophysicists using latest observing technologies. It’s 20% smaller than compared to Neptune or is around thrice the size of our planet. It is located around 922 light years away and is so close to its K-type main star that it takes only 1.34 days to zip around it.

Notably, this is the first time that such a kind of planet has been discovered in this area, which was previously believed to be so deserted that it was called Neptunian Desert. The region got such a name as it’s that place in solar system where no Neptune-sized oddballs are generally found. Due to the strong UV as well as X-Ray radiation coming from the main parent star, researchers believed that most planets disintegrate and then lose their gaseous atmosphere. However, the ‘Forbidden Planet’ is unique and distinct as it appears to have retained its atmosphere, as per a finding which has stunned the researchers.
