A handful of things make us unique and distinguish us from the pack, and a lot of these traits come from our history or experiences we have been through in our lives. One remarkable facet of Shurland Ayers’ life is his time spent in the United States Marine Corps. He worked full time from August 2007 through October 2011 in the Marines and credited many of the life lessons he’s learned from the time he served.
Ayers did his undergraduate studies in Tokyo, Japan, at Temple University Japan Studies after his time in the Marines. He double-majored in both Communications and International Business Studies with a minor in Art. Ayers spent a long period of time as a producer at Fox International Channels while studying in Tokyo. During his time with FOX, he got the opportunity to interview different artists who came to the studio. Ed Sheeren, Nas, Estelle, Big Sean, and Talib Kweli were some of the biggest names in the music industry that he interviewed. He also had the opportunity to be part of tours for artists, including Bow Wow, Soulja Boy, and ASAP Mod, when they were performing in Asia.
Between the Marines and his time spent in Tokyo, Shurland used his time to draw on his passion for music and make contacts along the way. The life lessons he learned while serving and the experience he acquired while working at FOX are second to none and are carried with him every day. Shurland Ayers has had many different factors play a role in where he is today, but he wouldn’t change a second of it.
