With Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison’s goals, Leicester City is now at the top of Premier League Table. Brendan Rodgers’s team hosted the London side at King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. Wilfred Ndidi gave them a perfect start with a goal in the 6th minute of the match.
As Chelsea tried to make a comeback, Leicester City’s midfielder James Maddison scored another goal in the match’s 41st minute. After conceding two goals in the first half, Chelsea tried to breach Leicester’s defence twice from the corners. However, Kasper Schmeichel was brave enough and cleared all efforts made by Chelsea’s players.
In 39th minute, Chelsea almost gained a lifeline when the referee Craig Pawson pointed to the penalty spot. However, VAR overruled the decision as Evans’ challenge on Pulisic wasn’t enough to give away a penalty. Later, Chelsea gained one more opportunity of scoring a goal through free-kick, but Mount’s effort went over the crossbar.
After scoring in 41st minute, James Maddison has now scored in three consecutive league games for the first time in his career.
Albrighton finished the ball in the net in the second half, but the goal was ruled out as the player was offside. Later, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech were brought on by Chelsea manager. As a result, Timo Werner finished Hakim Ziyech’s free-kick into the net, but the German striker was caught offside.
Brendan Rodgers and Frank Lampard’s thoughts
Leicester manager started the interview with praising Chelsea’s individual creativity and talent. However, he added that as a team, his side was better than the team from London. He went on praising Harvey Barnes, Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison’s overall performance throughout the match. He ended the interview by showing his satisfaction towards the team’s performance against the big teams like Chelsea.
