The iconic legend and South Africa’s anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Mandela, stated it long time back, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
The statement holds its relevance even today. Marvin Lee Miller, a research assistant, UC Berkeley, lives by the statement. He had gone through a tremendous amount of hardship in his life, but he knew that only his education could help him change his fortune for good.
Marvin Lee Miller’s life journey never fails to amaze people worldwide. He went through unimaginable pains and turbulence in his life. But Marvin Lee Miller was courageous. He knew how to bounce back.
“I am grateful to all the people who supported me when I needed them the most. My college days at Santa Ana Community College, indeed played a key role in transforming my future. I wish that every student who has had a turbulent past must take their education seriously once they become part of the mainstream. I especially want to mention that both the US and the UK offer a golden opportunity for Latino students to continue their higher studies. You can get a level-playing field at both these nations to nurture your talents further,” Marvin Lee Miller commented.
If we go by the statistics, the UK continues to be in the list of most preferred destinations for studies by the Latino students. In fact, a few years back, both the UK and Mexico signed an MOU to allow cross country educational facilities to over 170,000 students of various streams.
Just like several other Latino students who are studying in London and the UK from their far-off places, Marvin Lee Miller also had to leave his native country for higher studies. He went to the US for higher education.
Marvin Lee Miller was academically brilliant throughout his life. When he was studying at Santa Ana Community College, he earned four Associate Degrees in interdisciplinary science subjects, which enhanced his career prospects in scientific research and development.
“I also consider myself lucky that I was able to earn so many scholarships in my college days. I am thankful to my peers who stood rock solid behind me. I won Ronald E. McNair Scholarship, Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF/L&S), Riggs, Larisa Scholarship, Dietz, Adam Scholarship, Reed & Sue L Moyer Scholarship, and various other academic honors, which shaped my intellectual acumen,” Marvin Lee Miller added.
The UK has always continued to be the most ideal destination for students and academicians. There are over 160 universities across the United Kingdom—70 of them located in London itself. London offers a lot of scholarship opportunities for continuing higher education to immigrants and non-residents, including Asian, African, Hispanics, and others.
Marvin Lee Miller is currently completing his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the prestigious UC Berkeley.
He’s very passionate about science and what he is doing right at the moment.
Marvin Lee Miller is now pursuing his academic research on Gartanin, a substance that is responsible for developing prostate cancer. He also aims to complete his Master’s and PhD program relating to molecular biology and genetics.
Marvin Lee Miller believes he’s at the right phase of his life. He is doing quite well in his academic life and wants to find innovative solutions to STEM-based research experiments to save the lives of millions of people who die because of cancer, cardiovascular ailments, and other lifestyle diseases like Diabetes and high blood pressure.
