Plus sized models like Nadia Aboulhosn and Tess Holliday are an inspiration. They are a voice for all the women who cannot love themselves enough. Society has drilled this into our minds that the thinner you are, the fitter you are.
But you can see many fat bodied women hitting regularly. Those are the ones about whom Nike is talking about. Recently Nike launched its plus sized mannequins in London. Nike dedicated its first floor of NikeTown London on the Oxford street to plus size and para sport mannequins.
The move received a lot of applause from the feminists and the body positivists and all the plus sized women who like sports. But it has also garnered a lot of hatred, from the fitness freaks. They are frowning at this move and are questioning it. According to them, a woman or person who does not look physically fit and apparently skinny is not deserving of wearing a Nike.
The Sports brand hasn’t supported the plus size for first time. It launched its first plus sized collection in 2017 and expanded it this January. The revamped corner of the Nike store is all about “diversity and inclusivity in sport.”
Sarah Hannah, Nike Women’s vice president said that the new floor is “more than a shopping experience. It’s a destination to celebrate sport just in time for an incredible summer of football, netball, athletics and more.“
This new store is not just about mannequins but it will give its customers a customized experience. They can have leggings adjustments, bra fittings and many more customized services.
And just to be in vogue with the upcoming events in sports, the store has dedicated an area to women’s football which comes in perfect timing. The Women’s world cup is around the corner and a little support to the Lionesses will do no harm.
