Potts is known to millions as a talented international host but he’s also been working behind the scenes as a global media and tech executive. In fact, he took those creative executive skills to Europe where he helped spin-out an international media company with 19 new shows aimed at GenZ.
It is this varied and ever-changing career that keeps the Emmy award-winning Potts always excited to work in various media verticals like film, television, content creation, brand building and global studio development. He has been a part of many live sports, film and music events like Olympics, Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Golden Globes etc. Huffington Post has featured columns and articles by Potts both as an entertainment and tech writer.
With this rich experience and expertise both in front and behind the lens, Potts co-founded and launched the international media company, ‘The Content Artists.”
“We saw an incredible hole in the content market that dovetailed perfectly into our skillsets honed over nearly 8,000 shows,” Potts explains. “In addition to creating shows, our movie-deal flow and studio consulting, we feel the digital out of home (DOOH) content distribution network is massive and yet to be properly tapped.”
Potts’ keen eye for innovative tech appears to come from his years as a co-founder and general partner in the venture capital fund ‘Sierra Maya 360’.
“We saw a need in the broken VC world for a new kind of investment partner – one that bridged Hollywood, sports, e-sports and tech with an innovative 360 approach,“ Potts explains.
It must have worked. The fund went on to win 2015’s Best Tech, Media & Entertainment VC – USA.
It makes sense Potts’ would bring his media, entertainment and tech expertise to the venture capital world. He had just finished an impressive 12-year run hosting NBC’s hit show ‘Access Hollywood’, making him one of America’s most popular entertainment television personalities.
Now he’s bridging the startup world and television with his new show, “Pardon The Disruption.”
During his Hollywood career, Potts covered all the A-list events such as The Academy Awards, The Golden Globes, The ESPY’s, Emmys, The Cannes Film Festival and the Grammys, to name just a few.
Potts said he was thrilled to travel the world to bring his audience the latest in films from the Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto Film Festivals.
Potts told me his first love is still in front of the camera, hosting live-television. He says he had a blast guest-hosting on CNN, Live! w/Kelly, MSNBC and FOX and is always happy to jump back in and do what he loves most, presenting.
When he finished hosting in 2011, Potts launched the global media consulting company, ‘Dot N’ Feather Ideation’. Under his DNFI banner, he helped create and spin out Zoomin.studios out of the MCN, Zoomin.tv in Amsterdam. This included co-creating 19 new shows targeting the much sought-after GenZ market.
From there Potts told me he was tasked with creating and launching an international full production film services company in ‘The Hollywood of Europe”, Budapest, Hungary.
“What an amazing city!” said Potts. “The Hungarian people are just fantastic, super talented and great to work with.”
Apart from successfully running and managing multiple businesses, Potts’ is also on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Los Angeles and continues to advise startups – with a soft spot for early stage startups. He also advised Stanford University’s Sensa Project.
